Xander

This gorgeous boy is currently on the shared list. Boys are so much harder to find families for especially since he has had spina bifida surgery.
He is sitting up and doing well but will need some attention paid to his feet.

I met Xander this summer. He has the most gorgeous eyes, is a little shy around strangers and such a sweet little boy!!!
I have his DOB, send me an e-mail if you want this information:

Some more information on sweet Coco.

Written by her caretaker:
"Coco came to us at the end of March a few days before her second birthday.
It was shocking how developmentally slow she was. She could not sit up, hold her bottle or anything. Within the first week she was holding her bottle and soon she could her frame in the Ikea high chair. We had a very dedicated volunteer who fell in love with her and they bonded so much. Within a few months she had caught up with so many things. It was simply amazing. She wanted to stack cups, turned pages on books etc. She is really smart and catches on the games really quickly. She got therapy intensively everyday but that has slowed down now to three days a week.
Her right hand is functional, even though the radius is missing. She does not favor either the right or the left hand, but uses the both with equal dexterity.

Heart: She is a heallthy color.
Anal Atresia: In the beginning she just hated having her diaper changed. That has become less of an issue over the last months. There seems be have no after effects from this surgery, but I am not a professional so I can only tell you what I see based on my experiences of previous babies. She does not seem to be incontinent and poops well.

She is sitting well and crawls by scooting her bum. She is not on her hands and knees. She is weight baring and as for her walking, she has a great desire to walk. She shows great promise and is putting her one foot in of front of the other while being held. I think she will catch up completely soon.

Meet amazing Coco!!!

Coco is with an agency!!! She's one amazing little girl. She came to Starfish just a few months ago and could not even hold her own bottle and she is almost ready to walk now... she's such a trooper!!!!

This is what the agency has on their website:
She is a curious and outgoing girl. She learns quickly by observing others. She likes to walk with assistance. Instead of crawling, she scoots on her bottom as her right hand is deformed. She can use it to grasp items though. She has had surgery for anal atresia and a heart defect.

Megan has a family!!!!!

This is on the agency website  about her:
This pretty girl likes to go for walks outside. She is such a sweetie. She can sit and feed herself. She prefers to be with her caregivers. She is rather shy. She has delayed physical development and appears to have CP. She can sit up with assistance, but is not able to walk. Her fine motor skills are delayed.

Megan still needs her family to find her!!!

Megan has a family!!!!
I'm repeating a post about Megan with an update as recent as May 2011!!!:

She can pick up food and put in her mouth, and she can also bear weight when placed in a standing position.  She does not have a lot of strength in her core area, which would really help her ability to be mobile.  She receives some therapy at Starfish, but needs more aggressive therapies to help her get stronger.  The types of therapy available in China are not the same caliber as available in the US and other countries. One family did donate a small pool, floaties and rings for Megan to do some water therapy.  This will be helpful, but she needs a family to love her, provide a consistent routine, and get her started on the occupational and physical therapies she very much needs.  She is a precious little girl, and can so quickly see the difference in her surroundings and people around her.

Sally

Sally has a family!!!!!

Mila's family found her!!!!

Operation Starfish

May I introduce you to a 13 year old volunteer who is fundraising for Starfish? This is her Etsy shop

(click on the logo to visit her etsy shop)

Her name is Rachel and she is 13 years old. In April of 2011 she went to Xian, China to volunteer at the Starfish Foster Home for a week. Starfish takes care of children with special health needs from the local orphanages. These children stay with them until they are adopted. She was inspired on her trip and wanted to do more. Her goal is to raise $3000 for the babies' surgeries this year. 100% of the proceeds from this etsy shop will go towards helping the Starfish Foster Home.

What an amazing thing to do for a 13 year old!!!! I really admire her for doing this!

They got an update from the CCAA in april. Sally was born with Spina Bifida. She had surgery to have the SB repaired and they put in a shunt.
She is sitting, standing with help and uses her legs to push
herself in a walker.

Megan update MAY 2011

When I opened my e-mail this morning there was another e-mail from Eve. I can't thank her enough for taking the time (with a jet-lagged family..) to provide me with this update!!!

Jet,

Megan was very reserved around our family. She watched the boys like a hawk, following their every move with her eyes, but she did not want us to see her smile :0  She was very cute about keeping her smile from us.  Now when Amanda walked up, that was totally different. She lit up like a Christmas tree and was SO happy!  She laughed and reached out for love!!

She shook her head NO to some puffs that we offered, but happily accepted some chocolate! :)

I am praying for Megan...that she will find her family soon!

Love,
Eve

Megan update!

I found this information on a YAHOO waiting children group:
"She is neither walking nor sitting on her own yet. That being said, she also hasn't had any therapy. With therapy she could be walking within a year. She has the drive and will to walk and run. She pulls up on everything that she can. She moves her legs whenever someone holds her up. She just needs someone to believe in her and get her the therapy she needs."

This girl needs a loving family soon!!!!
I've asked someone that traveled to Starfish recently if she has any recent information, but she's just returned home with her precious daughter from China, so I can imagine she's very busy. I will let you all know as soon as I hear something from her!

This is Megan in 2009

Sweet Thomas...

Goodbye Thomas,

You will always be remembered.
I'm so happy you were loved and cherished at Starfish.
You deserved a longer life; a forever family, a healthy body.....
 Sometimes life is not fair....
You will be missed so very much by those who loved you.

Kaitlyn

Precious Kaitlyn was born October 2007 and was born
with Meningocele at the base of her neck.
Kaitlyn needs a mom and dad who are willing to accept the unknown.
She is generally a very happy girl, but lets everyone know when she is upset.

Someone told me yesterday that her file is with Faith International.
I checked the rainbowkids website and think this is her:
http://www.rainbowkids.com/ChildInfo1.aspx?id=6958
Update march 2011: Kaitlyn is back on the shared list.

Update:
Kaitlyn is the oldest child at Starfish. She continues to improve. She holds her bottle and rolls over on her own. She loves her nanny!

Here we go....

Jack has a family; and I'm so VERY happy about that............ but the other children at Starfish Fosterhome that are not matched need their families to find them too. So..... this blog's name will remain the same in honour of amazing Jack, but I will try advocating for the other little ones needing a family now.

I want to tell everyone though, that I get most of my information from the public Starfish blog and from volunteers that visited Starfish. In no way do I want to get the Fosterhome in China into trouble because they share private information with me personally!

To follow Jack's family visit their blog that I mentioned earlier. I think it is now this family's choice what information to share about THEIR son.
